This weekend, the Belgian city of Leuven and STUK, kunsten-centrum will once again play host to TRANSIT, the yearly festival for new music (hosted and presented by Festival 20/21).
This year’s guests include the New York based ensemble Talea, Tiptoe Company (Belgium), LAPS Ensemble (Belgium), Het Collectief (Belgium), and Gareth Davies & The Jullie Mittens (UK & The Netherlands.) Tom de Cock and Elizabeth Keusch with the assistance of Klaas Columbier and Yukiko Sugawara, respectively, will also present solo programs at this year’s event. And certainly a not to miss project will be Matrix’s 1+1.
I personally will be wearing two hats this weekend. I will conduct the fabulous and diverse Nadar Ensemble, presenting pieces by Khubeev (this year’s winner of the Gaudeamus Prize), A. Schubert , Steen-Andersen and a world premiere from Jennifer Walshe. And, I will also handle the technical coordination for the entire festival.
Hope to see you there!

Great review of our concert yesterday at the Donaueschinger Musiktage 2015.

Thanks and bravo to a wonderful team!
Tomorrow morning at 11 am, Nadar will premiere its newest program at the famous south German festival for modern music Donaueschinger Musiktage. We are proud to present new pieces by Stefan Prins and Michael Beil with (respectively) scenography from Marieke Berendsen and stage direction from Thierry Brühl.
What you see is (not) what you get.
This Sunday, the 11th of October, ‘Chicago, Das Musical’ will open in the beautiful, fantastic, authentic Berlin theater: Theater Des Westens.
Rehearsals are going strong and I am very happy that I get to continue playing this show.
Come see it!!
Check out this video.
In the film there are some great highlights of our concert last night, featuring Alexander Khubeev’s ‘Ghosts of Dystopia,’ Alexander Schubert’s ‘Point Ones’, Simon Steen-Andersen’s ‘Amid’, and Stefan Prins’s ‘Generation Kill.’
…And yes, those are plastic boxes attached to my fingers and elbows and knees and ankles!
Enjoy!
After a fabulous vacation, this season begins with a hit-the-ground-running start and a jam-packed September and October. I will conduct concerts with Nadar at this year’s Gaudeamus Muziekweek in Utrecht and the ever intriguing Transit Festival in Leuven (for which I will also serve as the festival’s technical coordinator.) I will also be with Nadar when they premiere two large ensemble pieces (by Stefan Prins and Michael Beil/Thierry Brühl) at the famous south German radio festival Donaueschinger Musiktage.
The fist leg of the German run of the hit musical ‘Chicago’ will finish in mid-September in Stuttgart. I am lucky enough to be able to move with the show for the next run in Berlin. We open there in mid-October.

Warm call to all art and music lovers! On Wednesday 24th of June the American composer Terry Riley turns 80. ChampdAction developed a website/app about his iconic piece IN C – www.incapp.net – together with Jazzperiments and in co-production with Concertgebouw Bruges, which we presented last year on Iedereen Klassiek by Klara in Bruges. Via this app you can play along with IN C 24 hours a day from all over the world with whichever instrument you choose. We would like to invite everyone to play along next Wednesday 24th of June and pay tribute to one of the most important composers of the 20th and 21st century. We hope to see you then and there too. Feel free to share this message as much as possible.

Tomorrow evening, Nadar Ensemble will perform as a guest at the Musikhochschüle Stuttgart as part of Martin Schüttler’s ‘ANTRITTSKONZERT’. Martin curated the concert himself with 3 of his own compositions, 2 new videos, and also a film by Cheryl Donegan – ‘Flushing.’
On a personal note, this is the first time I have had the joy of conducting a piece by him and we, as an ensemble, are joined by the great soprano Christie Finn.
Here is a link (in Dutch) to a nice review of the first annual festival Ear_to_the_Ground in De Bijloke, Gent. Nadar gets a nice mention in the first paragraph of the article.
