It’s going to be one of those weeks when there’s hardly time to unpack between concerts!
Today, Sunday, I’m in Aachen for the Round Table 58 Aachen Benefizkonzert, where some of my students will be performing. I’ll be joining them on stage as well, playing George Lewis’ Oraculum once again. The program is called Zwischen Stimmen, and I’m looking forward to sharing the stage with the students. It’s always nice when the work we do in the classroom finds its way onto the concert stage.
On Monday, I’ll be heading to Ghent, where I’ll be performing with SPECTRA Ensemble at De Bijloke as part of the Belgian Music Days. We’re playing Luc Brewaeys’ Cardhu, as part of a program bringing together six Belgian composers. I’ve always enjoyed working with SPECTRA, so it’s a pleasure to be joining them again for this concert.
And then comes the big one: Nadar Ensemble turns 20!
From Thursday through Saturday, we’ll be at DE SINGEL in Antwerp for a series of performances celebrating the ensemble’s twentieth anniversary. The centerpiece is our production Hide To Show, alongside Stefan Prins’ Mesh and Louis d’Heudières’ Laughter Studies. Three very different works, all in their own way dealing with the relationship between performers, technology, images, and audiences.
Twenty years is quite a milestone. Having been part of Nadar for so much of its history, it’s a particularly special occasion for me. There’s a lot to celebrate, not least the many musicians, composers, technicians, and collaborators who have helped shape the ensemble along the way.
So, Aachen today, Ghent on Monday, and Antwerp for the rest of the week. A little bit of everything, and quite a lot of contemporary music.
Busy week indeed. I hope to see some of you along the way!
